PARADISE, Calif. - Joyce Patricia Boylan, 89, of Paradise, formerly of Ocala, Fla., died Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at Oak Knoll Senior Living in Paradise.
She was born on Jan. 10, 1923, in Iron River, the daughter of the late James E. and Lillian (Altenhofen) Sarber. She attended the Iron River Schools, graduating from the Iron River High School in 1940. Joyce graduated from the Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Detroit, in 1943 as a registered nurse. She spent 45 years nursing, most of it in pediatric nursing.
Joyce served in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps in World War II and the Korean War. She received an honorable discharge with the rank of lieutenant senior grade. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ocala Post 4781, Queen of Peace Church in Ocala, and Choraleers NY Club.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph C. Boylan; daughter, Joanna Boylan of California; four grandchildren, Laura, Beth and Joachin Avazedo and Steven Boylan; four great-grandchildren; nieces, Leslie Ramos, Mary Beth Gilmore, Karen Sue Ambrose, Phylliss Mangone, Kathleen Saylor, Beth Sarber, and Lynn Mulvihill; nephew, Richard Sarber; and special Ruff nieces and nephews, Kathy Johnson, Ginger Wade, Barbara Stauder and Dennis Ruff.
Joyce was preceded in death by her sisters, Marion Sarber, Margaret Dent, Dorothy St. Peter, and Delores Dent; brothers, William, Howard, and Robert Sarber; and special sister-in-law and friend, Kay Ruff.
Visitation will be Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron River.
Funeral service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Iron River with Rev. Gregory Veneklase, pastor, to offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Interment will be in the Resthaven Cemetery in Iron River.
