Recipes invited

LANSING - The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) Division of Environmental Health is creating a cookbook of favorite fish recipes from Michigan residents.

Please visit www.michigan.gov/eatsafefish or call the MDCH Division of Environmental Health at 1-800-648-6942 to learn more.

The deadline for submitting recipes is Aug. 1.

Michigamme walleye

After a long fight, Jack Kukura of Kingsford coaxed this 30-inch, 7-pound walleye out of the Michigamme River in Iron County. HIs fishing partner, 13-year-old Devan Urban of Kingsford, handled the net. The lunker walleye bit on a crawler.

Off-road vehicle group to meet on Wednesday in Iron Mountain

IRON MOUNTAIN - The Sportsmen's Off Road Vehicle Association will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 28, at the American Legion, 918 River Ave., Iron Mountain.

Under the leadership of Al Heidenreich, SORVA has been an advocate for opening county roads throughout the U.P. for many years. Heidenreich is now retiring and Dave Screcchi has been elected president.

Come to the meeting if you like to ride your ORV. Plans are being made for a picnic in September.
