IRON MOUNTAIN - Breaking news from The Daily News can now be provided to those who sign up for the service.

The Daily News Publisher Bob Johnson said individuals will be able to opt-in to receive an alert directly to their cell phone.

The text message alert will direct individuals to The Daily News Web site, www.ironmountaindailynews.com, for complete breaking news details.

Breaking news alerts could include weather advisories, school closures, road detours, traffic accidents or major local fires.

This service will be provided by The Daily News free of charge. However, individuals may be charged for the breaking news alert by their cellular service provider depending on their text messaging plan.

To receive breaking news alerts via text message, text from your cell phone the word "optin" to alerts@ironmountaindailynews.com.

"Once fully operational, this service will reinforce our commitment to being a news leader and multi-media provider," Johnson said.

To avoid potential texting fees, individuals can receive e-mail alerts by sending an e-mail with the word "optin" in the body of the message to alerts@ironmountaindailynews.com.
