Trojans, Nordics reach finals
Forest Park aims for another district championshipIRONWOOD - With an easy 3-0 win over Wakefield-Marenisco Thursday evening, Forest Park is a win away from an 11th straight district volleyball title.
Trojans aim for No. 11 tonight at 6:30 p.m. when they take on Watersmeet at Gogebic Community College.
The Trojans routed Wakefield-Marenisco 25-7, 25-2, 25-13, behind a team-best seven kills by Daryl Arcand.
Trojans reeled off 36 aces in the match. Audrey Sholander produced an amazing 16 on her own. Alex LaChapelle added eight.
"Overall, everybody played their positions well," Forest Park coach Kim Bjork said. "We got all the girls some experience this late in the season and worked on some other things offensively."
"We pulled it together the last two matches, but it didn't carry into the tournaments," W-M coach Kathy Makela said.
Trojans improved to 26-3-6.
"Watersmeet should be a good match-up," Bjork said. "They has some good hitters and should give us a challenge."

CARNEY - North Dickinson and Superior Central will clash for a Class D volleyball district title Saturday at noon at North Dickinson High School.
The Nordics advanced to Saturday's final with a 3-0 win over Carney-Nadeau here Thursday evening.
"This is where you play hard or go home," Nordics head coach Sandy Haustein said. "I was pleased with the overall performance tonight and it was a good win.
"Our serving was off and we gave up a lot of points, but we finished each game strong with minimal mistakes."
Nordics served 13 aces in the match.
"Erica Johnson, Melanie Roell and Breanne Berg came up big serving for us," Haustein said. "Kelsey Luedtke, Amy Roell and Makayla Mohr were strong at the net."
Mariah Johnson totalled 21 assists. Emily Lehto, Samantha Skogman, Carly Unrein carried the defense.
Superior Central knocked off Bark River-Harris 3-1.
