Nordeman resigns

By NIKKI YOUNK, Staff Writer
POSTED: November 3, 2009

CRYSTAL FALLS - Suspended Crystal Falls City Manager Charles Nordeman resigned Monday night during a special closed session of the Crystal Falls city council.

Nordeman previously had requested a public hearing regarding his suspension. The public hearing, originally scheduled for today, has been cancelled.

According to a joint press release from the city council and Nordeman's attorney Steven L. Pence of Marquette, the city offered a six-month severance package to Nordeman in exchange for a full release of all claims.

The city council was represented by attorney Geoffrey Lawrence of Crystal Falls.

Nordeman was suspended on Oct. 12 by a 3-2 vote of the city council. Mayor Janet Hendrickson, and council members Jeff Hagglund and Mike Smokevitch voted in favor of the suspension, while council members Jim Burke and Jack Bicigo voted against it.

Hendrickson said that Nordeman's suspension was related to the "financial deterioration of the city of Crystal Falls." She added that the situation was "not related to embezzlement in any way."

Both the city and Nordeman wished to express their relief that this difficult matter was behind them.

With the obvious corruption in the city office Nordman didn't have a chance. I left letters for him. He never got them. The City Clerk is the one who should be canned. Crooked as hell. Lies through her teeth. And the Mayor needs to go too. She protects her little nest of criminals. They rip off the citizens by hiding fees in the electric bill. All bundled up with the KWH charges. If the people really knew what they were being charged for. And NO City Ordinance. And the Mayor said in the last meeting that there would be not Ordinance for Electric. Why, Because “with no ordinance we can do what we want”. That’s a quote directly from the City Clerk herself. Can you spell FRAUD!!!

If the council had enough ammo they would have just pulled that trigger. What they did was offer six months severance in exchange for Mr. Nordeman agreeing not to sue the City.

There are three sides to every story. We will likely never get to hear Mr. Nordeman’s side.

Thank you Chuck for your many years of dedicated service to the fine City of Crystal Falls.

Well it looks like the Crystal Falls City Council definitely had enough ammo when they pulled the trigger. Too many skeletons in the City Manager's closet?

Those aren't so bad; what really ticks ME off is the "public hearings" and the general monthly meetings, which are "open" to the public, begin at 5pm!! Who the heel can get to a council meeting and participate in a community when the meetings are at 5PM????!!! Most people who "work" for a living, are just walking out the door of their job, and by the time they get back to town the meeting is long over. WHY DON'T THEY HAVE THE MEETINGS AND HEARINGS AT 7PM AND GET SOME COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT???

Gotta love those special "closed sessions".
