IRON MOUNTAIN Overwhelming Boyne City with its hard-nosed physical defense, Iron Mountain forced five turnovers before halftime and coasted to a 42-0 Division 6 pre-district playoff win Saturday afternoon at Mountaineer stadium.

"They made too many mistakes and we were better than them up front," Mountaineer head coach Scott Boddy said. "Everybody got to play, so it was a great win for us."

The Ramblers, who lost their senior starting quarterback to injury in the regular-season finale, turned the ball over on four of their first five possessions and didn't register a first down until an Iron Mountain penalty yielded one late in the first half.

Iron Mountain outgained Boyne City 296-46 in the first half, rushing for 239 yards. Taylor Jayne eclipsed 100 yards rushing before the first quarter ended, thanks mostly to his 76 touchdown run to put the Mountaineers on the board. He finished with 109 yards on 10 trips.

"It felt great," Jayne said. "The whole team worked together really well and we put together a great effort. The line was awesome today. Guys like Andrew Hartwig, Cole Smith and Paul Kuoppala did a great job opening up the holes for me."

Fullback Josh Pender collected 91 of his game-high 115 yards in the first. He put the Mountaineers up 13-0 with a five yard run in the first quarter and then added the next score with a 35-yard dash through a hole on the left side.

Bill Boddy and Seth VanLaanen had first-half picks for Iron Mountain.

Pat Ruhl, Pender and Kuoppala jumped on Rambler fumbles.

Boddy threw for 82 yards and two scores. He found Rulh streaking across the endzone on a fourth and five for a seven-yard strike to make it 28-0 at the half and then pushed one in from the one-inch line on a fourth and goal to cap the Mountaineers' first drive of the second half.

Mountaineers' final tally came when Boddy hooked up with VanLaanen for a 10-yard score late in the third quarter after Boyne City committed its fourth fumble of the game inside the Iron Mountain 20.

Boyne City finished with 90 yards in the game. Drew Nohel led the rush with 36 yards on 10 carries, picking up more than half that total late in the fourth.

Nohel also had an interception. Even Orban came up with two picks for the Ramblers.

"We had a couple of mistakes that I was a little disappointed in," Boddy said. "But other than our turnovers and a couple of formation things, I think we played a pretty good game."

Next up for the Iron Mountain (8-2) is a trip north to face West PAC champion Calumet (9-1), which defeated Charlevoix 54-13 on Friday.

Game is slated for Friday at 6 p.m. "We know what we're up against," Boddy said. "We have to take care of those miscues.

It's going to be a physical battle. They're tough, real tough."
