IM angler places 23rd in world tourney

DUNDEE - Iron Mountain angler David Koller and teammate Carl Stepp of Crivitz, Wis., placed 23rd at Cabela's MWC World Walleye Championship held Oct. 8-10 on Lake Erie.

They earned a cash prize of $1,100.

Ohio anglers Matt Davis and Dan Gies, who netted 14 fishing totaling 85.26 pounds, won first place and $25,000.

Koller and Stepp caught nine fish with a total weight of 25.67 pounds.

Donald Soltis of Perronville and Bert Wilson of Gladstone placed 12th, earning $1,500, with 12 fishing weighing 48.43 pounds.

The tournament was filmed for airing on Versus Television Network. Scheduled dates and times are Monday, Nov. 16, at 8:30 a.m. (Central time) and Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 9:30 a.m.

The Cabela's MWC World Walleye Championship is an invitation-only event with no entry fee and a guaranteed $100,000 plus payout. Anglers qualify during the previous MWC season.

Wildlife donation

Duane Halvas, of U.P. Trappers Association District 3 accepted a $500 donation from Mike Selmo of Wildlife Unlimited of Dickinson County. The monies will be used for various programs to educate youth on sound wildlife management and natural resources practices.
