Bobcats, Patriots fall in ‘4’ regional softball

FLORENCE, Wis. — Phelps/Conserve scored 17 runs in the last four innings and outscored Florence 27-22 in a WIAA Division 4 regional softball opener here Friday.
In a game that took more than three hours to play, Florence claimed an 11-10 lead after three innings.
Bobcats pitchers Mel Vacarro, Lacey Church and Whitney Gregg allowed 12 hits.
Florence garnered 10 hits off the Knights including a Brooke Fellner double and two hits apiece from Billie Neuens, Lacey Church, Kim Neuens and Hannah Gareau.
Bobcats completed the season with a 4-11 record.
“It was a tough year and learning experience,” said Beck, whose Bobcats started seven freshmen.

PEMBINE, Wis. — Lakers’ Kaitlin Gallagher swatted a pair of triples in the WIAA Division 4 softball regional opener here Thursday.
White Lake snapped a 5-5 tie with five runs in the third inning and seven in the sixth. Patriots made four errors in the third inning.
Patriots pitcher Joanna Borzecki allowed nine hits.
“That’s the best I’ve seen anybody hit off Joanna this year,” said PG Coach Nikki Millan.
Freshman Aimee Smolens led the Patriots’ seven-hit attack with a double, two singles and two RBI. Rachelle Johnson posted a couple hits while the Janczewskis, Amanda and Amy, each drove in two runs.
“I’m pretty happy,” Millan said of her first season. “For a young ball club, they learned a lot.
“They’re already looking to next year. This is something they enjoyed.”
