Alice Hollingsworth
NORWAY — Alice Marie “Gram” Hollingsworth, 90, of Norway, died May 11, 2008, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.
She was born on Jan. 5, 1918, in Iron River, and was the daughter of the late Casimier and Katherine (Twardzik) Mish. Her family moved to Vulcan, when she was five. She graduated from the Norway-Vulcan Schools and married Irving Jansen.
She then married Bernard Guiliani and lastly, Earl “Moose” Hollingsworth in 1975.
Alice resided in the Norway-Vulcan area the majority of her life. Following her marriage to Earl, they resided for a few years 1in the Detroit area.
The most important thing to Alice was her family and spending time with them. Each family member has wonderful memories of “helping” in the kitchen for one of her delicious Sunday dinners. She also loved to cook for everyone else and did so at several local establishments. Her family owned Alice’s Restaurant from 1967 to 1973.
Alice’s love for people and love for socializing made her a great bartender. She worked at the J and J, Town Tap and Stop Light to name a few. As a young mother with two daughters she managed the Norway Co-op. Alice was a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Norway for more than 50 years and was president for 20 years. Alice also loved to bowl and was a member of the WIBC for more than 40 years. She attended craft classes at the Norway Senior Center and crocheted for everyone.
Alice is survived by daughters, Joyce (Dave) Mattson of Cape Coral, Fla., Alice “Sis” (Eugene) VanEyck of Menominee; sons, Robert (Linda) Guiliani of Clare, Mich., and Roy (Luanne) Guiliani of Norway; 11 grandchildren, James Mattson, Cindy Davis, Mary (Larry Farr) Mattson, Linda (Todd) Jordan, Cheryl Lord, Kim Blom, Keith (Karma) VanEyck, Terry (James) Walker, Melissa (Steve) Olson, Kert (Jennifer) Guiliani, Tina Guiliani, Anthony (Alicia) Guiliani and 19 great-grandchildren, Tessa, Alyssa, Carissa and David Mattson, Adam (Masako) and Benjamin (Alison) Arndt, Allison Dennis, Saylor, and Trevan Jordan, Andrew Lord, Tyler Blom, Emma and Stella Walker, Samantha, Thomas and Carter Olson and Austin and A.J. Guilinai; three great-great grandchildren, Ryan Arndt, Kanoa Ardnt, and Noah Gast; one brother in-law, Melvin Peppler and sisters-in-law, Joyce Mish and Genieve Mish.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Katherine Guiliani; grandson, Steve Mattson; brothers, Ferdinand and Casimier Mish; sisters, Teresa Mish and Pauline Peppler.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Miner-Ortman Funeral Home in Norway.
Prayers will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, at 11 a.m. at St. Barbara’s Church in Vulcan, with Fr. James Roetzer, presiding.
Interment will follow at the Norway Township Cemetery.
