Marjorie Uren

POSTED: May 11, 2008

IRON MOUNTAIN — Marjorie Uren was born in Calumet on Sept. 27, 1921, God’s precious gift to Edward Chapman and his wife Grace, nee Carlson. While Marjorie’s soul was born dead in sin, the God of all mercy granted a rebirth through the gracious washing of baptism and later confirmed her in the Christian faith at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain.

Eph. 2:4-5 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved).

Eph. 2:10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

Marjorie was the second oldest in a family of one boy and three girls. Her father worked for Ford Motor Co. Marjorie graduated from Kingsford High School in 1940. God prepared Marjorie to serve as a Christian wife and mother. On Nov. 23, 1942, she married George Uren and the couple was blessed with two children, Craig and Marjorie. Her husband taught at Kingsford High School for 34 years. Marjorie was an avid sewer and enjoyed reading and flowers.

Eph. 2:6-7 God raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

In 1996 the Lord ended George’s earthly pilgrimage. Marjorie continued to live in Kingsford and appreciated time spent with her children and grandchildren. After a recent hospitalization, she moved to a rehabilitation facility in Eau Claire, Wis. On May 5, she was admitted to Luther Hospital in Eau Claire. During the last days of her life, she was surrounded with her family and had many devotions of comfort and joy from the Word of God. On Thursday, May 8, God ended the earthly pilgrimage of Marjorie at 86 years, 7 months, 11 days. Her body will be buried in Quinnesec Cemetery where it will await its resurrection on the Last Day.

Eph. 2:12, 19, 20 at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone.

Still in the time of grace are her son, Craig and his wife, Kathy of Randle, Wash. and their children, Grant and Carrie; her daughter, Marjorie and her husband, Mark Clement of Eau Claire and their daughter, Kim; a brother, Myron and his wife, Carmen of Salamanca, N.Y.; two sisters, Betty and her husband, Jack Hosking of Iron Mountain and Doris and her husband, Herb Knudsen of Kingsford; and a number of nieces, nephews and friends.

Eph. 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

A service celebrating God’s gift of eternal life to Marjorie will be on Monday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain.

The funeral service will follow at 12 noon at the church. Rev. Stephen Cowen will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Saviour’s Church Building Fund.

Condolences may be expressed to the family of Marjorie Uren online at www.ernashfuneralhomes.com

The funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.
