Roller Derby Fundraiser at The Junction
January 20, 2012 - Theresa Proudfit
In honor of the first anniversary of The Kingsford Krush Roller Derby we will be having a celebration/fund raising event at The Junction on January 28th in Kingsford.
This is an exciting event for The U.P.'s first roller derby league. The derby girls have participated in several bouts across Michigan and Wisconsin and are excited to be hosting home bouts in the area. The last event included girls from both Stevens Point and Appleton Wisconsin and was a huge success.
Recently Escanaba formed the their own league called The Escanaba Rolling Hellcats and we couldn't be more excited. It gives us another team in the U.P. to bout against, starting already in February. Yippee. Now how about Marquette? There must be some roller girls in that area!
Junior Derby is also catching on quick. We have many junior girls practicing now for their first bout in March. They practice from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday's so if you have a young girl that likes to skate have her come in and check it out.
The fund raising event will help keep derby operating in the area so come out and join the fun. The celebration begins at 7 p.m. at The Junction Bar/Grill at 115 Harding Avenue in Kingsford. The is a $5.00 suggested donation at the door and Brandon Jump will be the D.J. for the evening.
Drink specials and a silent auction will be a part of the fundraiser.
Come support your local Roller Derby Girls who strive to empower women and give back to their community.
