The heat that skipped us

February 24, 2014 - Jim Anderson
On our cold streets, there’s plenty of scoffing about “global warming.”

It’s hard not to shiver in agreement.

But before ripping the science, there’s also this:

Globally, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, January was the fourth-warmest since modern temperature record-keeping began in 1880.

From the NOAA report:

“Most areas of the world experienced warmer-than-average monthly temperatures, with the most notable warmth across Alaska, western Canada, southern Greenland, south-central Russia, Mongolia, and northern China.”

Or, as The Weather Channel’s Chris Dolce noted:

“ ... eastern North America accounts only for a small part of the globe.”
