First week at The Daily News

February 7, 2014 - Evan Reid
I'm finishing up my first week as a staff writer here at The Daily News...

My parents have been subscribed to The Daily News for as long as I can remember and it's been cool learning how stories are written and seeing the paper put together every day.

As a true crime TV aficionado, being inside the courtrooms of Dickinson, Iron, and Florence counties was exciting, if only because there was never any reason (I swear!) for me to be in court before I got this job. I'm looking forward to covering court events in the future.

My condolences to the property owner who lost a garage, but going to the scene of an active fire in Homestead on Thursday was a pretty interesting experience as well.

Rather than being employed somewhere just so I can get a paycheck to throw at student loan debt, I'm glad to be working a job that I can see myself enjoying for some time to come.

I want to shout out to Nikki Younk, who coached me through this first week and answered any questions I had.

I would also like to to encourage readers to send any questions or comments they may have on anything I cover for the paper to

Time to clock out for the weekend!
