Fishing derbies planned Feb. 15

Family fun can be had on Feb. 15. With this being the free fishing weekend, two local organizations are planning their annual derbies for that Saturday.
The Knights of Columbus Norway-Vulcan Holy Spirit Council 9523 is hosting their fourth annual Hanbury Lake Ice Fishing Derby Saturday, Feb. 15 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Persons can purchase entry tickets areonly $1 and can be purchased on Hanbury Lake in Norway starting at 7 a.m. the day of the derby. Everyone can enter as many times as they would like.
There will be cash prizes and trophies to be awarded for largest fish in four categories with ribbons and cash for second place. The first fish caught also wins $20. There will be hundreds of dollars in cash and prizes given out at the derby.
Fishermen must catch all fish on on Hanbury Lake after 7 a.m. The derby will conclude at 2 p.m. at that time prizes will be awarded. All fish must be legal hook and line caught.
Drawings will be held every hour. There will also be hot food and door prizes available throughout the day.
Members of the Knights of Columbus are also willing to helping anyone with hole drilling and some equipment is available if needed.
All funds raised will be used to improve Hanbury Lake Park.
The second event will is the William Anderson Sports and Recreation Club fishing derby on the Hermansville Lake.
Persons can register for the derby from 9 a.m. to noon. Fishing will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Cost is $5 per person with fisherman and 16 and younger are free. Prizes will also be awarded for the largest fish (all species). Door prizes will also be given out and free refreshments will be available.
This is a free fishing weekend, so no license is required. Cheap entertainment for the whole family. This will be the perfect time to get out of the house after these deep freeze weather conditions we have had lately. Lets just hope for a little warmer temperatures for that weekend.
