City Park is truly a 'treasure' to enjoy
September 30, 2013 - Linda Lobeck
During the past couple of months, I’ve had a chance to really look at all City Park has to offer residents. And I can say that I’m impressed with the improvements that have been made as well as the number of people using the park.
I’m there mostly with my granddaughter to see the deer, geese and bunnies as well as watch her enjoy the other kids and the playground equipment. She always has fun at City Park.
While walking around or sitting and watching her, I see so many people using the new paved trails to walk, exercise their dogs, or bike. There is a lot of traffic going on, and it’s nice to see the park being used to its potential every day.
On the weekends, there is some kind of get-together going on in the pavilion — usually it's a family reunion or wedding reception. And that brings in even more people to see what City Park has to offer.
Sometimes when you have something right under your nose, you don’t appreciate it. But I think from the usage I’ve seen, most people are appreciating City Park.
Kudos to the city of Iron Mountain and City Council for getting that MIchigan Department of Natural Resources Trust Fund grant to make improvements to the park.
And to the people on the Friends of City Park Committee, thank you for continuing to raise money for the city’s match for this project as well as looking to the future so that we can continue to enjoy the park.
The park is truly a ‘treasure’ for people to enjoy.
