Those mammatus clouds

July 23, 2013 - Chris Tomassucci
I know everyone who has a Facebook account and is friends with someone in the area has seen pictures like these from last night but here are a few more images of those awesome clouds.

These were taken at my house on the east side of Iron Mountain right before dark at approximately 8:30 p.m.

For anyone who missed it, these clouds, apparently called mammatus clouds or mammatocumulus clouds (meaning "mammary cloud" or "breast cloud") are most often associated with the anvil cloud and also severe thunderstorms.

The pictures really don't capture how eerie the whole experience was. The mammatocumulus that formed over Iron Mountain made everything take on strange coloration. Greens looked more green, blues more blue, and so on.
