Planning to Camp
June 24, 2013 - Theresa Proudfit
Why does it take me weeks to prepare for a camping trip that lasts for three days? Trying to get things in order for an upcoming trip has been sucking up my free time.
We need to pack a tent, sleeping bags, pillows, air mattresses and pump, water jug, coolers, ice, lighter, firewood, a grill, newspapers, a tablecloth, paper plates & bowls, plastic silverware, tin foil, paper towels, trash bags, dish soap, cooking spray, utensils, folding table, cutting board, ziplock bags, napkins, a potato peeler, flip flops, towels, shampoo, tooth brush/tooth paste, deodorant, brush, toilet paper, sunscreen, chopstick, lantern, batteries, bug repellant, candles, camera, a radio, camp chairs, sunglasses, first aid kit, an axe, a flashlight, a pocket knife, binoculars, rope, cards, games, and duct tape.
Then we'll need to go grocery shopping. Hamburgers, hotdogs, brats, chicken, marinade, seasonings, condiments, buns, bread, cereal, milk, instant coffee, marshmallows, graham crackers, hershey bars, potatoes, corn on the cob, butter, eggs, bacon, peanut butter and jelly, go-gurts, cheese, fruit, orange juice, soda, beer, tomato juice, water, pop tarts, popcorn and trail mix.
We don't exactly rough it out there.
I need to call my house/dog sitter to give feeding, walking, and veterinarian instructions. Make sure house is clean and organized for the sitter including fresh sheets on the bed. Wash sleeping bags, bedding, and camp clothes that have been in storage all year. Clean out the car and truck to make room for all our gear. Make sure the grass is cut and mail and newspaper are brought in everyday and finish a few projects at work.
Then off we go for a relaxing weekend in the woods. If you believe that story see last years camping blog.
