Welcome back Spring

May 17, 2013 - Linda Lobeck
I’m sure it has something to do with the longer winter we had this year, but I certainly have spring fever and so glad it's finally here. I can remember my Dad saying that this was his favorite season. He said it was because it was just nice out — in the 60s and 70s — and felt so good to have the warmth from the sun shining on you. I would have to agree with that, especially since my tolerance for the winter seems to be wearing thin.

The things I like best about spring are the smells of fresh cut grass and blossoms starting to bloom on trees. I have some flowering crab trees by my house and a couple of apple trees that usually have beautiful blossoms on them in the spring. It hasn’t happened yet, but hopefully they will soon!

And you know it’s been a long winter when all you can hear in the morning are the birds, chipmunks and squirrels chattering up a storm. I’m sure they are all saying that the winter has been a hard one for them too.

I also like getting some flowers to put in pots and bring some color to my yard. But I have been waiting for it to be a little warmer at night before putting the money out for flowers. I’m not too much of a fan of hauling plants in and out each night because there might be a frost.

Hopefully it will be extra nice outside by Memorial Day weekend so I can enjoy the smells of food (hamburgers and corn on the cob) cooking on the grill and sitting out at night with a fire. Springtime is so relaxing.

I guess I’m a little like my Dad now — it does feel like spring makes me feel more alive. With the sun shining, it definitely warms me up and puts me in a good mood. And maybe I can start to put those sweaters away again until next winter.
