Glenn Beck has tin foil, will bake

April 22, 2013 - Jim Anderson
One of the oddities in the Boston Marathon bombing coverage is Glenn Beck’s insistence that the U.S. government is conspiring to hide the involvement of a Saudi national in the attack.

CNN’s Jake Tapper tried to clear up the Beck-fueled misinformation mess several days ago, but Beck is still trying to uncover a conspiracy somewhere.

As summarized by Tapper, a Saudi national who was a bombing victim was questioned by the FBI as a witness to the attack. He was never a suspect and he cooperated fully.

At the same time, a second Saudi national from the Boston area was in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody for violating his visa. His case had nothing to do with the Boston Marathon, officials said.

In what appears to be a case of confused identity, news reports surfaced that the Saudi national wounded in the bombing was about to be deported. That’s not the case, according to every credible source.

But that hasn’t stopped Beck from running with his accusation that a Saudi national was involved in the attack because ... because ... because Beck has said so, that's why.

UPDATE: A Department of Homeland Security official has provided new information that's offered at Beck's website, TheBlaze. In short, the official further explains some of the confusion over the Saudi national's status in the wake of the bombings. He was initially a "person of interest" but is now considered innocent and not connected to the bombings, or the real suspects. Beck, of course, won't leave it at that. Some of us, though, will rest easier believing the White House isn't shielding terrorists and can go back to worrying about Bigfoot and aliens posing as jurors in the Jodi Arias trial.
