'Cowboy at a piano recital'

February 13, 2013 - Jim Anderson
He listened, he squirmed, he sat on his hands.

Ted Nugent wasn’t impressed with President Obama’s State of the Union speech (big surprise) and — as predicted here — wore no tie.

Nugent applauded not at all, Politico reported.

Slate’s David Weigel said the outspoken gun advocate spent the entire speech “in various stages of physical agony.”

The Christian Science Monitor’s Peter Grier said he looked bored and out of place, “like a cowboy at a piano recital.”

Nugent told reporters afterwards that his favorite part was “when I couldn’t hear clearly.”

So we’ll leave it at that. (Some of the coverage is available at upper right — Blog Links.)

As for his wardrobe: black shirt, no tie, olive-brown sport coat. He wore his camouflage cowboy hat for interviews but was hatless high in the House gallery.
