Changing name after divorce

January 14, 2013 - Lisa Reed
With a divorce comes a name change, at least in my case.

Since I did not have children with my ex husband, we both agreed I would take back my maiden name.

The first step in changing your name after divorce is to make changes with the social security office. Once that is done, I can change my name on my driver’s license.

In the meantime, I changed my name at work, which included business cards, e-mail address and the contact information on this Web site.

Then I will have to change my last name on my health insurance, bank accounts, financial information including debit and credit cards, and of course my vehicle registration/title.

Once all of that is done, I can officially claim back my maiden name and get use to signing it again.
