Excitement for a new school year

September 5, 2012 - Linda Lobeck
For the last time (we hope), my husband helped to move our younger son back to college recently. This is his senior year in college with graduation looming in May 2013.

It's a bittersweet thought, especially when I see younger friends and co-workers going off school clothes shopping and getting supplies for their younger children starting school this year. I also get nostalgic when I see the kids lining up at the bus stop ready for the start of another school year. There are a lot of great memories and pictures I took of my sons each year on that first day of school with their backpacks loaded to the max.

On his first day of classes for his senior year, my son has such fun and interesting subjects as federal income tax (yawn), auditing, investments and intermediate microeconomics. Not exactly my cup of tea, but for someone going into the accounting field, it's probably pretty interesting. But more importantly, once he gets his degree does that mean he does his parents taxes for free?

But although my own children will be done with school fairly soon, I do have something to look forward to — grandchildren and all of their school activities. My granddaughter may only be a year old, but already I am having a blast buying her outfits, books and educational toys.
