Strings and things
May 25, 2012 - Nikki Younk
Want to get into something that’ll really get your head spinning? I’m not talking about booze and I’m not talking about drugs. I’m talking about string theory!
I’ve always been fascinated with the fields of physics, astronomy, and cosmology*. However, even after taking several elective courses in astronomy during my college years, I can’t say that I understand all of the concepts. Come on, does anybody really understand relativity?
I'm even further in the dark when it comes to string theory. I do know that string theory is a candidate for the elusive “theory of everything,” which would tie the physics of gravity to quantum physics. After that, things get iffy.
If you want to boggle your brain for a few hours, do some research into this topic. I’d recommend reading “Parallel Worlds” by Michio Kaku or going to one of these fine websites:
*the study of the origin and development of the universe, not to be confused with cosmetology, the study of beauty treatments
