BREEN TOWNSHIP — Two people are dead in what law enforcement termed a “large explosion” and fire late Thursday morning at a Hardwood residence in Dickinson County.

Officers from the Michigan State Police Iron Mountain post found the two victims after being called about 9:50 a.m. to a home on Fordville Road in Hardwood, according to a news release from the MSP post.

The names of the two killed were not released. An investigation has begun into the cause of the explosion and fire.

Troopers were assisted by Nordic Ambulance, the Breen Township Fire Department and the Felch Township Fire Department.
