IRON MOUNTAIN –The 25th Great Eight Winter Games will take place in the local area Saturday, with the opening ceremony starting at 8:30 a.m. at the Kingsford Middle School Gym.

The games are coordinated by the school districts of Florence, Forest Park, Iron Mountain, Kingsford, Niagara, North Dickinson, Norway-Vulcan and West Iron County.

Competition during the games includes events for fourth- through eighth-grade students from the eight school districts in archery, bowling, chess, skiing and snowboarding.

Basketball is open to fourth- and fifth-grade boys and girls and students in sixth through eighth grades can participate in girls volleyball or boys dodgeball.
